When education was under local control through LEAs, the education was crap. But in the days of heavy industry, those who left school illiterate did not need much education to shovel coal all day in coal mines. Parents’ groups, charities, faith bodies, and mutual organizations will have greater role in delivering educational services under plans being drawn up by both Labour and Tory parties. Swedish system of independent state schools, financed by vouchers, is now inspiring the Tory Party to set British schools free from LEAs. The proposal will end 60 years of local government control of education. Now Labour party wants to reverse that proposal. It would be a disastrous for British education system. What is needed is that the politicians agree that our system of education should be free of ideological party political control and the consequent bias, and for them, on a cross party basis, to find the appropriate people to do the job.

Since 1944, all schools have been under a statutory obligation to provide for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils at the schools. All state schools have failed to help children to achieve such goals. This is the main reason why silent majority of Muslim parents would prefer to send their children to Muslim schools. Even OFSTED is unable to assess the spiritual and moral development of the children. There is ample evidence that state schools foster intolerance, hate and bullying. There is no evidence that Muslim schools indoctrinate children with values and endanger shared society. Primary Review reports on diversity presents a powerful attack on current educational discourse in relation to diversity and to bilingual pupils in particular. The schools and teachers see children’s use of languages other than English as a ‘barrier to learning’ instead of recognizing and respecting them.

State and faith schools are homes of racism, knife and gun cultures, anti-social behaviour drug addiction, binge drinking, high divorce rate, teenage pregnancies and abortion and incivility. I was shocked and disgusted to hear about the sad stabbing of a teacher by a fifteen years old student in a Catholic college in Leeds. She died because of her injuries. The teacher stabbed to death in a Leeds school was widely viewed as inspirational. Let's remember how important this is.This poor woman was tragically murdered in front of her students. A truly tragic event. Death can claim you when it is least expected. The thought alone reduces my ego tremendously. Rest in Peace Anne Maguire. My thought was what on earth had happened to someone who is described as a nice middle class 15 year old boy to make him do such a dreadful thing people will now be baying for his blood like a pack of hunting dogs, despite him been a child, but something went badly wrong in his life and someone must have been responsible for that.

What sort of shit hole country is this? Teachers are abused on a daily basis in this society and something needs to be done. An ex teacher gave a depressing nap shot of the reality of daily life in modern British schools. Modern education is rubbish: Idealistic young teacher Robert Peal says his experience with children at a Birmingham comprehensive led to him losing faith in Britain's schools system. Children today are a product, or a by-product of society. They are responding to what they see in the media and also what is taught at schools. Violence, Gangs, War, Destruction, Money, Stealing, Celebrities, Governments, Control, Aggression, Intimidation, Fame and Fortune, An Angry Society. Citizenship teaches children about all these things as well, possibly before they are ready or capable to understand the complex subjects properly. They respond to what they are exposed to. We have had government after government that have continued the nonsense of political correctness. From dumbing down subjects and exams to behaviour and lack of discipline. So many surveys are showing that it's harming children, it's harming the results they get. And it absolutely has to be harming UK society when they become adults. Talk to any member of the public and we've known this has been going on for many, many years, but yet, we have these repeated useless governments that pander to political correctness. These minority idiots in government (and teachers unions) think they know best and their views are in opposition to the majority of the public. We can't even sack an under performing teacher! Absolute madness. When Ofsted was introduced just over 25 years ago, everyone was at pains to tell the children and parents that no one was looking at the children, it was the school and its teachers who were being inspected. This caused a paradigm shift in general attitude towards educational establishments. Suddenly, if children didn't achieve it was perceived that it could never be the child's fault, it must always be because they were not being taught properly! It became a big stick to beat teachers with and successive governments have systematically denigrated a once proud, respected and able profession ever since. Not surprising that many of the highly qualified professionals that I know have left the profession and often replaced with lower qualified, cheaper, alternative 'bodies in the classroom'. Kids need discipline. You take that power away from teachers and this is what you get. Schools should, rather than educate as a priority, encourage...Happiness, calmness, playfulness, sharing, community spirit, health, sport.
If it were up to me I’d give Ofsted a good shakeup. I’ve seen an average school with a dysfunctional head assessed as ‘outstanding’ because for all her shortcomings she knows which boxes to tick.What you need is a load of secret Ofsted inspectors disguised as supply teachers. Pluck some decent trainee teachers off the tree and train them up as inspectors and then put them into school as supply teachers/maternity cover etc. and let them report back to Ofsted based on a long period of observation. That’s the only way to find out what really goes on in the school. Heads would be horrified at this ‘mystery shopper’ idea as would the unions and I’d take this as proof that it was the right thing to do. I’d go as far as to say that simply the notion that they could be being secretly observed would bring about improvements. "Or we could empower the actual professionals - the teachers." Seeing how some teachers behave, "professional" is the last word I would use of them. Well the current system is a mess and getting worse but quite frankly this doesn't seem much better and does little to move us towards a fair and equal education for all.

Britain has a broken society. This is a dark portrait but it is very true. Children are left to rot and they grew into animals. Binge drinking, drug addiction, a culture of disrespect and antisocial behavior, teenage pregnancies and abortions, knife and gun culture are part and parcel of every day life in all big city centers. The teenage pregnancies and the sheer madness of sex education teach nothing about morality. British society is suffering from unprecedented social decay and societal breakdown, according to the Children¿s Society shocking evidence. Britain has more broken families than other countries. British children are rougher with each other, and live more riskily in terms of alcohol, drugs and teenage pregnancies. Britain's rate of teenage pregnancy is the highest in Western Europe. According to official figures, nearly half of all babies are now born out of wedlock. They are more likely to suffer social, mental and emotional problems. The reason they carry the weapons in the first place is that they feel no one is there to protect them in the first place. I think Jack Straw needs to instil British Values into these children.

It is crucial that Muslim children should be surrounded with the languages, culture and faith. Faith is powerful element of both personal and community identity. They need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models. There are hundreds of state schools where Muslim pupils are in majority, in my opinion and in the opinion of the silent majority of Muslim parents, all such schools may be designated as Muslim community schools. Muslim schools are not only faith schools, they are more or less bilingual schools. Bilingual Muslim children need to learn and well versed in Standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. They need to learn and well versed in Arabic to recite and understand the Holy Quran. They need to learn and well versed in Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. Bilingualism is brilliant for the development of intellectual ability and cultural understanding. The great diversity of cultures and languages should be the key to the development of Britain as a world leader in multilingual, multi-cultural integration and partnership, an example to every other nation of how people of all faiths and cultures can live, learn and work together in harmony for a more just and fair world for everybody.

The demand for Muslim schools comes from parents who want their children a safe environment with an Islamic ethos. Parents see Muslim schools where children can develop their Islamic Identity where they won't feel stigmatised for being Muslims and they can feel confident about their faith. Muslim schools are working to try to create a bridge between communities. There is a belief among ethnic minority parents that the British schooling does not adequately address their cultural needs. Failing to meet this need could result in feeling resentment among a group who already feel excluded. Setting up Muslim school is a defensive response. State schools with monolingual teachers are not capable to teach English to bilingual Muslim children. Bilingual teachers are needed to teach English to such children along with their mother tongue. According to a number of studies, a child will not learn a second language if his first language is ignored.
