Message Salaam

The demand for state funded Muslim schools is in accordance with the law of the land. Bilingual Muslim children need bilingual Muslim teachers as role models. They need to learn standard English to follow the Natioanl Curriculum and to go for highier studies and research to serve humanity. They need to learn Arabic to recite and understand the Holly Quran. They need to learn Islamic history and islamic studies to develop Islamic Identity. The children from the sub-continent need to learn Urdu to keep in touch with their cultural roots. All other Muslim children are going to learn their own mother tongues by their own bilingual teachers as a part and parcel of the school curriculum.

Dear Sir I would like to know how you thing this biligual issue could be implemented. I'm originally from Northern Nigeria and my own language is Hausa. With so many Muslims across the globe how pratical would it be to have teachers to teach all these different languages. I feel the concentration should be on English, (Arabic for Islamic studies) and An EU language like French etc

Message Iftikhar: Re your reply to Hulya: Although I am a christian, I can agree with what you are saying in principle. What you have not mentioned though, is that it is also very important for Muslim children to learn about all other faiths and not just Islam. Bigotry comes about by fear and ignorance. It is too difficult to change the views of some of the biased population (on both sides) now but we can all work this thing out for the future if we pull together. If everyone had this attitude and ensured their children, ie. our future generations were educated in multi-faiths, the terrorists would lose their power tomorrow.
